11 people are reported to have died with several others injured from a bomb blast at a hotel in Bauchi state on Friday night.

Thisday reports that an improvised explosive [IED] planted at the people’s hotel, a popular brothel in Bayan Garin area of Bauchi metropolice, went-off Friday night at about 9.50 PM killing 11 persons and injuring 28 others.

The ugly incident happened at the sacred heart cathederal during a memorial mass for the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa yesterday in Imo state. Shortly after the secretary of the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim finished reciting president Goodluck  Jonathan’s condolence message, the Imo state governor was called to make his speech. But charley boy surprisingly got up aggressively and snatched the microphone from the governor. Despite the intervention of the officiating priest, Bishop Mathew Kukah, Charley Boy insisted that no politician would take advantage of his father’s burial to score ‘cheap political points’.

This made the angry governor to storm out of the church in the company of his commissioners and aids and was besieged at the gate by angry supporters who berated Charley Boy for humiliating the governor.  However, the crowd disappeared when security men made efforts to bring the situation under control.

The military on Friday bared the use of the Maiduguri International airport for lifting about 278 pilgrims to this year’s lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia. Those affected include a serving senator representing Borno Central at the National Assembly, Muhamed Ali Ndume. Thisday reports that all efforts of the Governor Kashim Shettima to persuade the military to rescind its decision fell on deaf ears as the aircraft were ordered to leave the terminal empty. The pilgrims had no choice than to travel for seven hours to Kano to board their flights.

Justice L.O Okereke has sentenced a police constable to death by hanging for killing a fellow police officer, inspector Clement Onwuegbuta two years ago.

Justice Okereke in his judgment noted that the plea by constable Ekeozor that he shot the deceased in self defense was not tenable as he did not receive order from his senior officer on duty to shoot before doing so. The judge further ruled that the accused could not establish the evidence of provocation that prompted the shooting, noting that he shot and killed the deceased in an unlawful presumption that he was an armed robber. He insisted that the killing was an unlawful act against the Criminal code 231 of Enugu state. Meanwhile the defense counsel Mr. B.C Nwobodo stated that the judgment will be challenged at the appeal court.

Justice Ambros Namadi of the Adamawa state High court sitting in Yola, yesterday restrained the state house from serving impeachment notice on Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari. The court also prevented the legislators from proceeding with the impeachment process against Nyako pending the determination of a motion on notice. Nyako’s counsel Mr. Jerry Owen had filed a motion ex-parte on behalf of the governor, asking the court to stop the three respondents and their agents from going ahead with the impeachment moves.

It will also interest you to know that the judge who presided over this case is the acting chief judge of Adamawa state.

Hello Nigeria, it was indeed a sad day for our country Nigeria as series of attacks were carried out by the wicked ones against innocent citizens. This was very unusual because it happened in several states in a single day. The sad day started with the news that over 123 were feared killed in an onslaught on some villages in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state by Fulani herdsmen. We were like; ok this is ‘every week news’ in Nigeria and everyone was eager waiting for 5pm to come so that we would watch our super eagles take on Argentina when we got another news of a bomb attack at a very busy shopping plaza in the federal capital territory, Abuja killing 27 and injuring several others. Before we could even get details of the bomb blast in Abuja, another bomb blast was reported at a crowded market in Mubi town, Adamawa state killing one person and injuring three others.

                                      Our blood went cold and our hearts broken as Argentina ran away with a 3-2 victory over our eagles. That was not even all, we heard about an explosion at a gas plant in Lagos causing more fears in our already frightened hearts. In response it was reported that President Goodluck Jonathan concealed his A.U summit trip to come back and attend to this security challenges. But sadly enough, that was not enough to stop the boko haram insurgents from attacking and killing 16 soldiers at a military check point in Borno state.

                                      That was how the Wednesday turned out to be a bloody one. But then I ask myself, where do we go from here?

I was so, so surprised when I heard governo Fayemi’s speech after the election results were announced. Not just his fluency, composure or humility but how democratic and matured he was in his speech. Don’t forget, this is a man who has done so well for Ekiti state. But in a democracy the will of the people should prevail and am happy that it happened in Ekiti last Saturday. And what made me even happier was Governor Fayemi’s speech.

Unlike a typical Nigerian politician who will always call out the timid youths for a bloody protest in the name that his mandate was stolen by the winner/INEC. Fayemi broke all political protocols in Nigeria by congratulating his opponent who will soon be his successor; saying it was the will of the people. "Yesterday, Ekiti State decided. Following the gubernatorial elections held in the land of honour, Ekiti State, Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially returned the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the election.

If indeed this is the will of the Ekiti People, I stand in deference to your will. If the result of the elections is an expression of the voice of our people, we must all heed your voice.

I have just spoken with my brother, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, congratulating him on his victory. In a few hours from now, I would be meeting the Governor-elect to discuss the future of our dear state and how we would work together to institute a smooth transition programme.

It has been a hard fought election. As expected, in the course of the campaigns, there were unsavory episodes as the candidates toured the nooks and crannies of the state to sell ourselves to the people. Elections tend to be highly divisive affairs that often see brother rising against brother. Despite our diverse party affiliations, and regardless of which way we voted on Saturday, we must remember that we are all sons and daughters of Ekiti State. Ekiti is ours to build together.
On our part, over the course of the campaigns, we presented our scorecards before the people of Ekiti State. We never at any point took your support for granted. We campaigned, we canvassed and we traversed the nooks and crannies of this State. Our performance and achievements in office will remain the backdrop against which the next government and indeed future governments will be assessed. We are proud that with the support of Ekiti people, we have raised the bar of excellence in governance. In all, we gave our best, for conscience and for posterity.

Indeed a new sociology of the Ekiti people may have evolved. However, the task of understanding how the outcome of this election has defined us as a people will be that of scholars. For us as an administration and a cadre of political leaders in Ekiti State, we have fought a good fight, we have kept faith.

To members of our party, our campaign team and indeed all Ekiti people who defied the siege on our state to cast their votes for our party, I salute your exemplary courage and doggedness in the face of harassment. Thank you for staying the course. The incidences of brazen harassment, intimidation and allied infractions on fundamental human rights, which many of you suffered in the hands of agents of the state, would be documented and communicated to the appropriate authorities, for the records.
