The ugly incident happened at the
sacred heart cathederal during a memorial mass for the late Justice Chukwudifu
Oputa yesterday in Imo state. Shortly after the secretary of the Government of
the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim finished reciting president Goodluck Jonathan’s condolence message, the Imo state
governor was called to make his speech. But charley boy surprisingly got up aggressively
and snatched the microphone from the governor. Despite the intervention of the
officiating priest, Bishop Mathew Kukah, Charley Boy insisted that no politician
would take advantage of his father’s burial to score ‘cheap political points’.
This made the angry governor to
storm out of the church in the company of his commissioners and aids and was
besieged at the gate by angry supporters who berated Charley Boy for humiliating
the governor. However, the crowd
disappeared when security men made efforts to bring the situation under
control.

Can Nigerian politicians ever gather and not discuss
politics?
