It was in November 201 that the Ghanaian finance minister Mr. Seth Terkper told the Ghanaian parliament that president Mahama and his political appointees have volunteered to cut their salaries by 10 percent for the purpose of building community based health and planning systems [CHIPS].

Interestingly, the salary cut took effect from January 2014 and this month the finance minister has announced that the exercise had yielded 327,363.69 as at the end of last month. Though the report did not disclose the total earnings of the president and his appointees during the period cited. Notwithstanding, I think the president should be commended for this.

Mrs Helen Chukwu has asked an Abule Egba magistrate court to jail her son Ifeanyi Chukwu so that he can be reformed. Ifeanyi Chukwu who according to the prosecutor Insp. Rachael Williams; always beat his mother whenever he was drunk or whenever she rebuked him for coming home late. And that Ifeanyi even threatened to kill his mother and sisters. The prosecutor also said that on June 15, a fight ensured between them and after beating his mother, the accused damaged four windows and a wooden door valued at #25,000.

                The offences contravened section 56, 170 and 349 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011, the prosecutor said. But that’s not all oooo….. The mother had this to say:

“I want him to go to Kirikiri prison to learn a lesson so that when he returns, he would have been reformed”. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

While commissioning the SURE-P sponsored rehabilitation of the federal government owned  Highway Training centre in Kaduna state, General Martins Agwai who is the chairman of the subsidy reinvestment and empowerment programme said that 5,075 youths will undergo training in highway maintenance and will at the end of their training be absorbed as maintenance officers in the federal ministry of works.

That will be a massive employment opportunity for the Nigerian youths if what general Agwai said is carried out. So let’s just be at alert so that when it starts, we’ll all miss out.

He needs no introduction as far as Nigerian music industry is concerned. popularly known with hit songs like ‘faze alone’, ‘kolomental’, ‘need somebody’, ‘tattoo girl’ etc. faze, a member of the defunct music group platashun boiz; revealed in a recent interview with ‘Potpourri’ that he will be releasing another album anytime from now. He further revealed that it will start with the release of a single titled “Your daughter” this June or July followed by other two singles with videos.

When asked what he has been up to; he had this to say

“I have been recording my new album which will be out anytime soon. I have some collaborations with some of my friends in the industry and you can expect the normal faze treats. You know I don’t just release albums, I take my time and make sure what I release does not fall short of the standard I have raised for myself”

The Edo state police command is said to have arrested Esohe Ogbeiwin who is a 35 year old woman for allegedly setting her ex-lover named Osayi on fire after she had invited the deceased to her house for settlement over a dispute.

The woman who reportedly had two children for the deceased was said to have poured petrol on him and then lit a match.

He was rushed to the university of Benin teaching hospital but unfortunately he died there. Meanwhile, the Edo state police command DSP, Uwoh Noble confirmed the incident adding that Esohe has been arrested and enquiries into the incident had since commenced.

The president of the Arewa youth consultative forum, Alhaji Yerima Shettima told the punch that he was certain that virtually all those arrested had no link with Boko Haram. I woke up with interesting news that the Lagos state deputy governor Mrs. Adejoke Orelope Adefulie has advocated life imprisonment for rapists and paedophiles to act as deterrence to people who have found love in committing such crimes.

That’s not all oooo…she also advocated for compulsory psychiatric test for rapists and paedophiles.

She affirmed that stiff penalties such as life time jail terms without options of fine for the culprits will bring about drastic reduction in rape cases not just in Lagos state alone but Nigeria at large.

I think this will be a good step in the right direction, but I also hope that she will “work the talk” so that her speech will not end at the event just like most speeches we hear from our leaders every day.

Mr. Nigeria 2014, 25-year-old actor and model, Emmanuel Ikubese has emerged second and was also judged the most stylish of all the contestants at the contest which took place in Riviera International Conference Centre, Torbay, UK. Overall Winner, Mr. World 2014, Nicklas Pedersen of Denmark (middle) and first runner-up, Emmanuel Ikubese of Nigeria (2nd right), during theMr. World contest in UK.            Ikubese took the 2nd place, following the overall winner, Nicklas Pedersen of Denmark who was immediately announced as the new Mr. World 2014 at the occasion.

According to the state of Osun based newspaper; ‘Osun Defender’ on Thursday 12^th of june 2014 reported that the PDP governorship candidate in the forth coming elections in the state, senator Iyiola omisore was again intimidated by the massive crowd that turned out during the campaign rally of the APC candidate, governor Rauf Aregbesola at Ila. And thus Senator Omisore had ran to the president for help again after he had done same when  a similar crowd turned out  for Aregbe’s campaign rally in his [Omisore’s] home town Ile-Ife.

                                        The newspaper further claimed that the president held a closed door meeting with Omisore and his Ekiti state counterpart Ayodele Fayose in Abuja for the president to help him win the forth coming governorship elections in the state at all cost.
