Scores
of president Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters were on Saturday injured at a North-central
Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria {TAN} rally held in Minna, Niger state,
as the stand which
hosted dignitaries gave way, leading to the injuries.
Those
injured include the wife of the Niger state Governor. Hajiya Jumai Babangida
Aliyu, her chief detail, the Governors Director of protocol, captain Baro,
Director-general, public affairs, Tanko Dada and senator Nuhu Shem Zagbayi.
Others are protocol security details to the dignitaries at the event.
Most
of the dignitaries were ferried away from the stand and site of the accident to
safety while those injured were taken to Bay Hospital in Tunga area of Minna
while some were taken to a General Hospital. The state governor, Dr. Muazu
Babangida Aliyu, said the the incident should be seen as a sacrifice and a sign
of success of the rally, adding that it was the number of people on the stand
that made it cave in. in addition, Thisday gathered that the steel stand cost
the state government N10 million.
My
heart goes to those that were injured and I wish them quick recovery.
