Despite the fact that there is an authentic  verified page opened in his name on facebook, which commands a following of about 500,000 people, Africa’s first noble Laureate in Literature, Professor Wole Soyinka has distance himself from its use and activities.

You could remember that back in May, Prof Wole Soyinka had categorically condemned the social networking sites, declaring that they were fast becoming a menace after he was alleged to have branded First Lady Patience Jonathan an “illiterate” on a bogus facebook account. However, the statement was credited to one of the numerous fake facebook accounts opened with his identity.

“Let me take this opportunity to announce yet again that I do not tweet, blog or whatever gores on in this increasingly promiscuous medium” Soyinka said in a press statement denouncing the comments attributed to him on a fake Facebook account.

In a chat with Weekend Groove, they revealed that they disappeared for some time because they went back to school and now they are through so the fans should expect a more vibrant Danfo Drivers in the coming months. They equally revealed that they had terminated their contract with Cornerstone music due to a breach of contract by Cornerstone music and therefore, they will be launching their own record label called “Danfo Drivers Records” in two months time alongside a new song and an album thereafter.

Thecable learnt that Nyako was jokingly told by President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Tuesday if he wanted to escape the lawmakers’ harmer, but the party chieftains did not treat it as a joke as they started holding discussions with the governor to persuade him.

FIFA SUSPENDS NIGERIA

The FIFA emergency committee yesterday suspended Nigeria from its activities with immediate effect, on account of government interference.  You will recall that a High court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had sack the Aminu Maigari led board of the Nigerian Football Federation.

“The said court order compelled the Nigerian Minister of sports to appoint a senior member of the civil service manage the NFF until the matter was heard in court, without giving any date for such hearing. The authorities then appointed who decided to convene an extra ordinary general assembly on July 5, 2014. This extra ordinary general assembly was convened in violation of the NFF status” FIFA said.

FIFA further stated that the suspension will be lifted once the court order is withdrawn and the properly elected NFF Executive Committee, the NFF general assembly and NFF administration are able to work without any interference in their affairs.

BANK MANAGER COMMITS SUICIDE IN OGUN STATE

The police detectives attached to Ibafo Divisional Headquarters led by the Divisional police Officer, CSP Salawu Jimoh, have discovered the body of one Mr. Habeeb Olatunde, 44, from Kwara State. Until his death, he worked as a manager in one of the commercial banks and had been declared missing by the police following reports of his disappearance by his family since June 18, 2014.

His dangling body was discovered in an uncompleted building at Arepo, near Ibafo, last Staturday, reported the News Agency of Nigeria {NAN}. The decomposing body was found hanging in the building when the police detectives found him.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the top bank official committed suicide by hanging. The police command had circulated the news of a missing man at the Ibafo Division of the Ogun state police command on June 19, 2014 and the men of the force intensified efforts to find him.

The frantic search yielded fruit last Saturday when his body was discovered with the help of members of the community. Prior to his disappearance, it was revealed that the deceased actually complained of stress in the office and was given permission to take some days off. He was believed to have committed the suicide while he was on the casual leave.  His corpse has been released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites as no mark of violence was seen on the body and no foul play suspected. No suicide note was dropped either; Thisday reports.

President Goodluck Janatan has assigned portfolios to the four new ministers recently confirmed by the Senate. Top on the list is the former Kano state governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau- minister of Education. Others are: Dr Stephen Oru- Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Mr Adedayo Adeyeye-Minister of state, works; and Dr Abdul Bulama- Science and Technology.

I think Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s move to dump the APC for the PDP has paid him well politically; at least in the short run. He publicly decamped to the PDP in April, and just a couple of months after, he is the Minister of Edcation. That’s what I call “The Winner Takes All Democracy”. Little wonder, all opposition parties want to get hold of the Federal Government.

Was Shekarau’s move to the PDP a question of ideology or political calculation?

I guess most of us have heard something like ‘The al majiri schools’ in the north East right? Now here is another one called ‘The nomadic schools’. It’s an initiative of the Niger state government to encourage nomads to be educated. And in a bid to strengthen the system, the Niger state government is said to have commenced the recruitment of 618 nomadic teachers to teach in the 274 nomadic schools spread across the state.

According to the state Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu who made this known through the state commissioner of Education, Mallam Danladi Abdulhameed, at the opening ceremony for the ‘Training of Teachers in Nomadic schools on implementation of the of the Nomadic Education Curriculum and Textual Materials’ for the North Central Zone in Minna yesterday stated that the teachers were needed to meet the dearth of teachers in the nomadic schools.

He also stated that the teachers would be given special allowances to motivate them to accept their postings to the rural areas.

NIGERIAN TROOPS TAKE OVER BOKO HARAM BASE IN BORNO STATE

The Nigerian Tribune reports that, Nigerian troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in Borno state, capturing terrorists and armed gangs in a military operation at the weekend.

That, this was disclosed by the Director of Defense Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, in a statement on Monday. Among those captured were two foreigners, who were suspected to be mercenaries, including several weapons, power generating sets, communication equipment, vehicles, motorcycles, foodstuff and kitchen utensils.

Prior to this clear-out, Balmo forest, which stretches from Bauchi through Jigawa states, with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest, had served as a base and hideout for launching attacks by terrorists.

Wow! That’s a giant stride by the Nigerian Military in the cause for putting an end to this insurgency.

Mr. Mike Omeri who is the co coordinator of ‘The National Information Center’, has said that security agencies were getting close to rescuing the over 200 school girls abducted from Chibok, Borno State, on April 14 this year, Channel TV reports.

Omeri stated this while briefing the press yesterday in Abuja on the security personnel’s rescue efforts. Omeri further said; “Security intelligence efforts had led to several arrests which would assist the security agencies in the rescue operation and in the fight against insurgency”

The Ogun Police command Sunday arrested Tolani Ajayi who allegedly murdered his biological father, a senior Advocate of Nigeria [SAN], at the Redemption Camp along Lagos Ibadan Expressway last Tuesday.

In a statement by the state police public Relation Officer, Deputy Supritendant of Police [DSP] Muyiwa Adejobi, the lawyer, Charles Ajayi’s 60-year-old body was discovered and recovered from a nearby bush at Canaan Land Street in the RCCG Camp.

His body had been concealed in a box after he had been allegedly killed by his son. Adejobi said the suspect, Tolani 21, a 300 level student of the department of History and International Relations of Redeemer university, RCCG Camp Ogun state, was arrested at his father’s residence.

He said the District Police Officer at the Redemption Camp, Suprintendant of  of police {SP} Olaiya Martins had led a team of detectives and some members of the community who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect, while dumping the box at a particular place, adding that the team were led to the site where the SAN body was dumped.

Speaking on while he killed his father, Tolani explained that the problem arose when his late father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he {the deceased} was calling and the late father slapped him. Tolani further said after the slap he went berserk and went straight to the kitchen to pick up a knife to stab him and later a cutlass to cut his throat that killed him.

What a sad story. I just wonder what the prayer points were like that made the boy not to respond to them.

DISSCUSS WITH BOKO HARAM, GROUP TELLS SULTAN

According to the Punch, some Islamic elite have written to the Sultan of Sokoto, aljai Sa’ad Abubakar III, asking him to lead the dialogue with members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The elite, writing under the aegis of concerned Muslim professionals had through the president of the organization, Alhaji Mohammed Saidu, in a letter to the Sultan, said the activities of Boko Haram were regrettable and that they constituted an embarrassment to the Islamic religion.

The group also noted that there had been no efforts by the Muslim leadership in the country to intervene in the crisis and insecurity created by the sect members, adding that the Sultan’s recognition would become doubtful if he fails to rise the occasion.

Has the Sultan of Sokoto done enough in assisting government to bring an end to this insurgency?

MY OPINION: NIGERIA AND THE SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY

Social contract is a political theory that is believed to have given birth to a state as an institution. According to the social contract theory, individuals came together and agreed to submit their freedom to use of their power and conscience to an institution called the state, with the agreement that their remaining rights will be protected by the state. The theory went further to say that such individuals have the right to withdraw from that contract if the state fails to protect their rights.

With this contract, individuals came together in an organized way, elected among them the most accepted people and submitted their freedoms to them to manage on their behalf. The right to kill was exclusively in the hands of the state while in turn the state will ensure that no one is unjustly killed. The state will decide what is wrong or right; all for the interest of those individuals who have submitted their rights to the state while in turn the individuals will obey the decisions of the state.

Now let’s come to the Nigerian situation, on what basis is the Nigerian state founded, what contract exist between the government and the people, does the state see itself as an institution created to protect the rights of it citizens? A capital NO will be my candid answer. Of  course how can I say yes in  a situation where elected politicians parade themselves like C.E.O’s of some multinational firms and carry out the affairs of the state as if it was their private property somewhere in Dubai or a Tropicana resort in the Caribbean Island. In fact, they are often times worshiped like the gods of the ancient kingdoms.

When an elected official constructs a kilometer of road, he sees it as his gift or favour to the people rather than see it as performing a duty he has been elected to perform. When N50 is used to construct a bole hole, N100 will be used for the ceremony to commission it. A country with over 160 million people has just about 400 thousand police officers and yet many  of the police officers are assigned to  serve as ‘personal bodyguards’ or escort to the rich and their families, leaving the poor helpless while the politicians go around in convoys whose length can only be compared to a moving train.

The law which should be the hope of the poor only serves as a cane in the hand of the politicians to whip anyone who tries to question its action or inaction. Our law can easily be likened to a cobweb which only has the capacity to stop small and weak insects leaving the strong ones at liberty to do as they wish.

 I think this is not how it should be, so we need to renegotiate this contract. Come 2015, we should enter into contract only with those who are ready to keep to the terms of the contract; please let’s not sell our conscience and enslave our Rights.

It’s no longer news that the super eagles had a bonus row at the 2014 world cup in Brazil before they went on to lose to France in the second round of the world cup, but the ripple effect of that event has been going on since that very day we crashed out of the world cup.  And the most recent one is that the Aminu Maigari’s les board of the NFF has been dissolved by the congress of Nigerian Football over the financial dispute that escalated between the super eagles and the Federation at the Brazil 2014 world cup. According to them, the shortcoming had caused the country international embarrassment.  But that’s not all oooo….even before the congress, a Federal high court in Jos had on Thursday last week issued a court order dissolving the NFF board and management following a motion instituted by Mrs. Baribote. Meanwhile, FIFA had given Nigeria until next Tuesday to overturn the court order which it deemed as government interference in football matters. The problem here is that if Nigeria fails to obey FIFA, Nigeria will be banned from all football matters.

Singer Katy Prerry is being sued by a group of Christian Hip Hop stars including Flame who claim her hit track Dark Horse ripped off their track Joyful noise. They accused Perry of using the 2008 track-which features Lecrae- without permission, tarnishing its ”Devoutly religious message” with images of “Black magic” and “Witch Craft”

The rappers complaint said, “The devoutly religious message of Joyful Noise has been irreparably tarnished by its association with witchcraft, paganism, black magic and Illuminati imagery evoked by same music in Dark Horse”
