SHEKARAU APPOINTED NEW MINISTER OF EDUCATION
President Goodluck Janatan has
assigned portfolios to the four new ministers recently confirmed by the Senate.
Top on the list is the former Kano state governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau-
minister of Education. Others are: Dr Stephen Oru- Minister of Niger Delta
Affairs; Mr Adedayo Adeyeye-Minister of state, works; and Dr Abdul Bulama-
Science and Technology.
I think Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau’s
move to dump the APC for the PDP has paid him well politically; at least in the
short run. He publicly decamped to the PDP in April, and just a couple of
months after, he is the Minister of Edcation. That’s what I call “The Winner
Takes All Democracy”. Little wonder, all opposition parties want to get hold of
the Federal Government.
THE QUESTION
Was Shekarau’s move to the PDP a question of ideology or
political calculation?
