WHY I AM GOING INTO POLITICS-KSB

Kenny St Brown needs no introduction as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated gospel artistes. With a career spanning over a decade in the music industry. In a recent interview, she declared her intention of going into politics and the reason for her intentions.
What is happening to Kenny St Brown at the moment?
Well, KSB is currently channeling all her energies and passion into nation building; I want to go into politics to help build a nation that we will all be proud of.  Neither in terms of infrastructure, nor ensuring that there is regular power supply in the country. But it’s in the area of building our people. We are blessed with human resources and other nations refer to us as the giant of Africa. This is not because of infrastructure in place in our country, but because of our population and the abundance of manpower.
My concern is for the youths. You know I’m youth oriented. Unfortunately, we have a lot of graduates who are unemployed today. We all saw what happened few months ago when the Nigeria Immigration Service were recruiting young graduates into the service. The service wanted to recruit about five thousand applicants, but over fifty thousand applicants showed up for the qualifying examination. This showed that we are actually educated. So, our problem is not that of education, but the crave for greatness.
THE QUESTION
Can’t she build people as a musician?

MY OPINION: APC IN TROUBLE!

APC IN TROUBLE

Since the day the People’s Democratic Party [PDP] chose the former Bauchi state governor, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu as its chairman, things have never been the same for the main opposition party in the country again. The temporal majority that the All Progressives Congress [APC] were enjoying in the House of Representatives was taken away from them [APC] by the PDP. And that was just the beginning of APC’S Nightmares.
Several elected officials of the APC began to defect to the ruling party mostly in states that are controlled by APC governors. The failure of the party’s leadership to checkmate this bitter trend has cost the party more than it could have possibly bargained for.

They unbelievably lost Ekiti state to PDP, they failed to save Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state from being impeached by the state house of Assembly and the legislator’s harmer fell on him eventually. Another report from Ogun state has it that 10 members of the state house of Assembly have defected from APC to PDP, in Nasarawa state, the state legislators are also making a move to impeach Governor Tanko Al makura while the Edo state House of Assembly drama is still going on since some members of  APC defected to the PDP. That’s not all oooo….from Borno state comes this news that Ali Modu Sheriff has also defected from APC to PDP.
Why all APC supporters are worried about these defections is that, all are happening in states that are controlled by APC.  But as the 2015 general elections approaches, these defections will certainly alter the political permutations heading to the polls next year. And if APC wants to give Nigeria that strong opposition party that we have been craving for, they will need to up their game.
THE QUESTION
Can APC defeat the PDP come 2015?

NIGERIA AND THE RULE OF LAW

NIGERIA AND THE RULE OF LAW
The rule of law is a political theory that was popularize in the 19th Century by a British Jurist called A.V Dicey. The principle of rule of law emphasis the supremacy of the law over every citizen, both the government and the governed. According to the principle, law should govern a nation and not individual government officials. I.e. the law should have the greatest influence over the behavior of every citizen both government officials and the general public. The principle went further to state that every citizen no matter his/her social strata, should be subject to the law including those that made the law.
Even before A.V Dicey popularized the principle of the rule of law, many philosophers had advocated for the supremacy of the law over everybody in a state. According to Plato, the Greek philosopher, “Where law is subject to some other authority, and has none of its own, the collapse of the state, in my view, is not far off; but if law is the master of the government and the government is its slave, then the situation is full of promise and then all the blessings that the gods shower on a state”
He was not the only note able philosopher that advocated for the law to be more powerful, Aristotle, another Greek philosopher also contributed when he said “It is more proper that the law should govern than any one of the citizens: upon the same principle, if it is advantageous to place the supreme power in some particular persons, they should be appointed to be only guardians, and the servants of the law”
Now, haven seen the picture of what rule of law should be or look like, let’s relate it with our political system here in Nigeria since we claim to be operating a democratic government that goes in consonance with the rule of law.
In Nigeria, the law is first before any other thing, like I said in my article last Monday, a cane in the hands of the rich, to whip the poor or those who are not on the same page with them politically. Here, the government is bigger than the law that’s why you’ll always see government officials disobeying traffic rules where ever they go with their convoys that most times cause accidents on our ever congested roads. If you would remember, just last year, one of Nigeria’s most respected professor died in an accident that was said to have been caused by a governor’s convoy in Kogi state.
In this part of the world, laws are made to suit individual interests or political interest. Take for example, the current outrageous pension laws that have been made in many states across Nigeria where billions of naira is spent yearly to take care of ex-governors and their family members whereas the civil servants who serve the country or state for 35 year can barely afford three square meal after retirement.
A governor will just wake up one morning and declare public holiday just because he/she does not want a particular group or opposition party to hold a rally. In fact, the law has been relegated up to the point that corruption is no longer a crime but a game.
The law is now like a toothless bulldog in Nigeria. Our lawmakers have developed a culture of collecting heavy salaries and allowances only to turn the assembly chamber into a boxing ring. New laws are made almost on daily basis yet our lawmakers don’t obey court orders.
If you visit any prison in Nigeria today, 99 percent of the inmates {both those that have been convicted and those that are awaiting trial} are the poor. Is it that only the poor commit crime or what?
We are still a young democracy, and we are evolving. But, if we want to progress in the right direction as a nation, we must make every citizen to be equal before the law; the law should rule and not the wishes of individuals.

BEAUTIFUL LADIES MAKE MEN BEHAVE BETTER-STUDY

BEAUTIFUL LADIES MAKE MEN BEHAVE BETTER-STUDY

I AM STILL AN UPCOMING ARTISTE-Ice Prince

I AM STILL AN UPCOMING ARTISTE-Ice Prince

The Jos born rapper, Ice Prince who is an Etisalat and Jovago.com ambassador is well known for his humility both in his songs and lifestyle. In a recent interview in The Leadership Newspaper, he was asked about how he sees himself after winning the BET Award for Best African act in 2013 and again performing at the same event in 2014; if he is the hottest rapper currently. This was Ice Prince’s answer:
“{smiles} I don’t see myself like that, I still see myself as an upcoming musician. I still see myself as having not arrived yet. It’s not even about humility. That is how a man should see himself. I don’t think as a human being you should ever get to a place that you believe you have arrived. That’s why I still see myself as upcoming. I don’t think Dangote thinks he is the richest African, that’s why he’s still making money. You shouldn’t believe that you have gotten there yet because that is way down-you get me? So there is still much more from Ice Prince. It’s like I haven’t even started.”
THE QUESTION
Do you think Ice Prince is Nigeria’s king of rap?

VENEZUELA, A PLACE WHERE THEY PAY FOR AIR.
Yes, it’s true. A particular airport in Venezuela is now charging passengers for the ultimate hidden extra air they breathe. The “breathing tax” which came into force on July 1 and must be paid by all domestic and international passengers to airlines at check in. The levy which is 127 Bolivars {$18} has generated criticisms in Venezuela.
