The police yesterday arraigned a 30 year old man ,
Animashaun Waheed, before a Lagos magistrate’s Court, Tinubu, Lagos Island, for
attempting to break into an ATM belonging to
Access Bank.
The prosecutor, Corporal Francisca Okere, told the
court that the defendant was arrested by a police patrol team in the middle of
the night. She recounted that the defendant had unlawfully gained entry into
the bank’s premises, armed with an axe.
She said “one of the security guards on duty, Tijani
Ahmed, at about 2.30am, was alerted by the noise from the activities of Waheed,
who had already gained access into the premises and was attempting to break
into the ATM. Ahmed alerted his colleague, Halilu Musa. They both raised the
alarm that attracted other security guards in the neighbourhood. Saheed was
subsequently arrested and handed over to the police patrol team”
Waheed was arraigned for three counts charge. The defendant
however pleaded not guilty to the charge. The case has been adjourned till
October 17, 2014.
THE QUESTION
Was it the
security guards that were smart or the criminal that was foolish?
