At
its maiden meeting during the weekend in Abuja, a coalition of Igbo leaders
from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT under the auspices of Goodluck
Gaa Niru 2015’ demanded the deputy governorship slot in the forth coming
gubernatorial elections in Lagos state, as a precondition to support the
Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
The
Igbo leaders who are canvassing support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s
re-election should he decide to contest, also urged the federal governor to
protect the lives and properties of Igbo people throughout the federation.
Especially in the North, so as to guarantee electoral spread for president
GHoodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.
The
‘Onyeisi Gburugburu’ of the group, Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, who led other executive
members to read the communiqué, observed that president Jonathan secured the 25
percent votes spread across the nation due to the massive presence of Igbo
people outside the Southeast. The group however appealed to the federal
government to ensure security for all Igbos outside the Southeast in other to
avoid intimidation of Igbos ahead of the 2015 elections.
THE
QUESTION
If the group truly have the interest of
the Igbos at heart, why are they not supporting Rochas Okorocha to contest for
the presidency in 2015?
